Job Description
The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. She/he is responsible for quality communication, teamwork, leadership, and professionalism. Additionally, she/he directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

Additional Responsibilities
A Registered Nurse I (RN I) is responsible for the care of their assigned population. This role requires completing yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies, and Professional Practice Ladder requirements, including assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in PI activities, and engaging in department initiatives. The portfolio must be current and submitted annually by March 1st. The RN I routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer review, and develops educational materials for staff and patients.
Education Requirements
* Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN, or ADN) required
* Bachelor's Nursing (BSN) preferred
Certification & Licensure
* RN License required
* BLS Certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider) required
* Relevant Specialty Certification preferred
* Must be licensed or eligible to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia, with either a multi-state license under the Nurse Licensure Compact or a single-state license valid in Virginia.
Qualifications
* Competent in providing care based on the cognitive, physical, emotional, and developmental stages of human growth
* Competent to provide care utilizing the nursing process
* Reliable phone communication with the hospital
* For new hires or those promoted to RN I, must secure eligibility to test letter from the Virginia Board of Nursing or equivalent licensing verification.
