The Role
Newcastle Law School seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Law to join our forward thinking, inclusive Russell Group Law School that seeks to embed its values in all that it does: Challenge; Social Justice; Compassion; Wellbeing; Excellence; Responsibility; and Respect.
We are looking for a passionate researcher and educator who can contribute to the teaching of one or more of the following subjects - contract law, EU law, employment law, law of evidence or family law. Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests aligns with the required area of teaching expertise.

Key Accountabilities
Teaching and Learning
1. To provide high quality research led teaching activity
2. To supervise dissertation students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level
3. Mentor and support students throughout their studies in the role of personal tutor
4. Set and mark assessment of modules in accordance with university standards and utilise on-line and digitised curricula and education frameworks
5. Contribute to curriculum and programme development as required
Research
6. Conduct research that demonstrates (or demonstrates the potential for) international standards of excellence in terms of originality, significance and rigour (REF 3* & 4*) (commensurate with experience)
7. Contribute to the research profile of Newcastle Law School by publishing high quality outputs and engaging where relevant with research groups within the school and Newcastle University Centres of Research Excellence (NUCoREs)
8. Pursue external funding commensurate with experience
9. Potential to demonstrate impact by developing research-based solutions to real-world problems and engage with external stakeholders to develop the impact of your work
10. Supervise PGR (postgraduate research) students (commensurate with experience)

11. Operate as an active and collegial citizen in the Newcastle Law School community
12. Have a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and an understanding of how individual behaviour can contribute to a positive research and education culture
13. Undertake a range of administrative tasks to support your area of teaching, research, engagement and/or student experience

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Lecturer Grade F:
17. Ability to contribute to the teaching of at least one of the following subjects is essential - contract law, EU law, employment law, law of evidence or family law. Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests aligns with the required area of teaching expertise
18. Evidence or the potential to provide an outstanding educational experience, rooted in strong disciplinary knowledge that engages, challenges, and inspires our students
19. Ability to deliver research-led teaching, making effective use of technology to enhance learning
20. Ability to develop and secure research funding
21. Experience of or capability to publish international and world-leading research
22. Evidence of a developing national/international research profile
23. Evidence of ability to contribute to the research community of the Law School
24. Ability to supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate students' research projects
25. Commitment to interdisciplinary working (Desirable)
26. Excellent written and oral communication skills
27. Excellent organisational, time management and presentation skills

Lecturer Grade G:
In addition to the criteria above, to be considered for a Grade G Lectureship you must also meet the following criteria:
31. A sustained national research profile and evidence of an established/developing international research profile
32. Evidence of developing and securing grant capture (desirable)
33. Evidence of engaging with external stakeholders, demonstrating potential for generating real-world impact from research (desirable)
34. Experience of attracting and supervising PGR students (desirable)
35. Supervision of undergraduate and taught postgraduate students' research projects
36. Substantial experience of designing and delivering high quality teaching and learning material, resources and activities for students
37. Evidence of active academic citizenship such as experience in an administrative role that supported teaching, research, engagement or student experience
38. Evidence of sustained teaching in one of the following areas – contract, EU, employment, evidence, family.
Qualifications
Lecturer Grade F:
39. A good Honours degree in a relevant subject
40. PhD at or near completion (strictly within three months of submission at time of application) in a relevant subject
41. A relevant Professional Body Membership as appropriate to the subject area (Desirable)
42. HE teaching qualification (Desirable)
Lecturer Grade G:
In addition to meeting the criteria for the Lecturer Grade F candidates must also meet the following criterion:
43. Completed PhD in a relevant subject
44. HE teaching qualification (or equivalent experience)
