Peterborough College is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Technician Trainer – Plumbing to support and inspire learners within our Technical & Modern Construction Skills faculty. If you’re passionate about the plumbing trade, enjoy working hands-on, and want to help develop the skills of future professionals, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference.

About the Role

As a Technician Trainer, you will play a key part in delivering high-quality training and practical support to learners at all levels. You’ll work closely with lecturing staff, guiding students through their practical activities, developing their confidence, and ensuring a safe, well-organised workshop environment.

This role is ideal for an experienced plumber who enjoys sharing knowledge—even if you haven’t taught before. Full training and development (including teaching and Health & Safety qualifications) is available for the right candidate.

What You’ll Be Doing

1. Providing practical training, coaching and underpinning knowledge to learners on plumbing programmes.
2. Assessing student competence and supporting progress through tutorials, workshops and practical observations.
3. Supervising students in the workshop, ensuring safe and effective learning at all times.
4. Maintaining tools, equipment and stock levels, organising stores, and undertaking minor repairs where needed.
5. Supporting the delivery of accredited programmes and assisting lecturing staff during practical sessions.
6. Keeping workshop spaces clean, safe and well organised, and completing relevant administration.
7. Participating in risk assessments, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety (including COSHH).
8. Supporting learners and colleagues with specialist equipment and First Aid (training provided).
9. Contributing positively to team culture, planning processes, and college events such as open evenings.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

10. Level 2 qualification in a relevant plumbing discipline
11. GCSE English & Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent
12. Experience working in the plumbing industry
13. Strong communication skills and confidence supporting young people
14. Excellent organisation, record-keeping and problem-solving skills
15. Commitment to safeguarding, equality and inclusive learning
16. Ability to work flexibly, independently and as part of a team
17. Good IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Desirable

18. Level 3 plumbing qualification
19. Experience teaching, training or mentoring others
20. Experience supervising students or apprentices
21. Minor maintenance experience
22. Good plumbing practical skills

If you don’t yet have teaching, First Aid or Health & Safety qualifications — don’t worry. We will support you to achieve these.
