Job overview
We are looking for an experienced Functional Skills English or Maths teacher, who has worked with learners from Entry level 1 to Level 2. Assessed all levels and components of Functional Skills English and has experience of the standardisation and internal verification processes for both the Entry level exams and the Speaking, Listening and Communication.
The majority of teaching is on a 1:1 basis, which primarily takes place on the ward. Each ward environment is different based on the clinical need of the patient. Sometimes you will be working in a quiet area, but other times the communal area of the ward.
Working hours are Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:30, except Wednesdays which are 12:45 to 21:00. There can be some flexibility on the days you work. The hospital is open all year so you are not restricted to school holidays for annual leave. All work, planning and marking, is completed on site and within your paid hours.
Main duties of the job
To support patients in accessing educational opportunities, at different levels, to achieve competence and qualifications relevant to them and their abilities.
To demonstrate a flexible and inclusive approach when offering educational support to patients, who can have extreme mental health presentations and/or be in very restricted circumstances.
To be flexible with regard to the needs of the patients and the organisation.
