Our company is split into two business areas: Utility Infrastructure and Social Infrastructure.
Utility Infrastructure – Our team of Utility Infrastructure specialists design, build and maintain critical water, energy (gas), power and telecoms infrastructure, for the UK’s largest network owners and operators.
Social Infrastructure – Our team of Social Infrastructure specialists revitalise homes and communities by carrying out a wide range of work, from retrofit to refurbishment, and maintenance.

Job purpose
The role will encompass both work winning and the delivery of live projects whilst providing strong functional leadership, management, governance and excellence for all commercial activities pre and post contract, across either a single large project or portfolio of projects.
Specific responsibilities
* Ensure that United Infrastructure SHEQ standards, operating processes and company policies are understood and adhered to at all times and that legislative requirements are complied with as far as reasonably practicable.
* Induct and ensure employees comply with the United Way of working in their daily disciplines.
* Act professionally in all activities to enhance the Company’s reputation.
Pre-contract
* Assist in the preparation of tenders as directed and attend pre-contract meetings and reviews as necessary.
* Support bid and estimating teams, study documents, advise on onerous conditions, and work with the bid team to create an achievable profit plan for each scheme.
Business Unit Management
* Contribute to the development and implementation of Company policies and procedures.
* Market the business with existing and new clients to assist the business development team.
Project delivery
* Agree target margins for projects and lead the Commercial function to ensure delivery of successful projects and target margins.
* Attend site meetings as necessary and actively interrogate financial and contractual information to forecast project position, costs and margins.
* Ensure any changes and solutions are agreed with the Head of Depts prior to implementation and support contract processes to protect the company’s position.
* Provide advice to the management team on contractual, valuation and measurement matters.
Procurement
* Review subcontract enquiries, formulate tender lists, and assess quotations with the management team.
* Agree project procurement strategy and support Group Procurement buying.
* Negotiate sub-contract packages to deliver favorable outcomes and ensure sub-contracts are issued per authorised procedures.
Main contract
* Ensure surveyors understand responsibilities for interim valuations and final accounts.
* Develop and maintain relationships with customers, consultants and subcontractors to improve customer experience and secure repeat business.
* Manage monthly valuations, ensure timely invoicing and payments, and document client agreements.
* Maintain records for future claims and prepare contractual claims where required.
* Ensure surveying processes align with contractual variations and payments.
* Review responses to claims for loss and expense and support subcontractor claims where appropriate.
* Oversee project profit and loss accountability and use of cost systems to maximise margins.
* Lead monthly commercial reviews; monitor cash flow and forecast accuracy.
* Raise timely alarm signals if the contract deviates from cost and profit parameters.
People
* Lead all people responsibilities for the team, including Performance & Development Reviews and coaching.
* Plan and allocate surveying resources, promote best practice, and support team development.
Legal / Disputes
* Ensure timely preparation of claims or dispute management and communicate potential risks to the Commercial Director.
* Inform the Commercial Director of possible subcontractor claims and prepare documentation to protect the Company’s interests.
* Compare contract documents with tender documents upon receipt and advise on anomalies to align terms with House Rules.
Other
* Collate documentation relating to insurance claims and participate in business improvement processes.
* Attend industry/client events and undertake appropriate professional development to stay current.
* Comply with Group Delegated Authorities and Contracts Process; work in one or more locations as required.
* Any other duties assigned.
Qualifications
* Professional membership of an appropriate body
* Good data interrogation skills
* Leadership experience with the ability to influence at all levels
* Bid knowledge
* Excellent legal/contractual knowledge
* Industry experience
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills
* Experience in a senior commercial role
* Valid driving licence
* CSCS card at the appropriate level
