Associate Civil Engineer (Urban Drainage/Wastewater Modelling)
We are seeking an experienced engineer to lead an already high-performing team of engineers and hydraulic modellers on urban drainage projects. You will define, manage, and deliver solutions to a wide range of complex urban drainage problems, provide guidance across the business, and apply your technical skills to projects of local and national importance.
Responsibilities
* Provide leadership on urban drainage projects; apply standards and recognise when alternative solutions are required.
* Support the team lead in managing project delivery, including supervision of tasks and review of deliverables.
* Develop the urban drainage modelling capability within the team; stay at the forefront of recent developments and provide training to junior members.
* Provide technical input on urban drainage projects and support the wastewater team to deliver current and future projects.
* Apply independent engineering judgement and offer innovative solutions; be a proactive and collaborative team member.
* Lead people by growing and developing a high-performing team, providing line management and mentorship for career development.
* Develop and maintain excellent client relationships at all levels; coordinate and facilitate project meetings with clients.
* Develop and submit successful proposals to bring work into the team, through existing frameworks and new client relationships.
* Promote the WSP brand through industry forums and conferences.
* Contribute to the learning of the wider team through knowledge-sharing activities.
Your Team
As an Associate within the WSP Urban Drainage team, you will support the leadership in shaping ongoing development. The team includes engineers and hydraulic modellers with a wide range of experience, delivering projects across WSP’s client base.
* Work as part of a dynamic and award-winning water team within a wider network of over 750 professionals, supported by our Global Water Team.
* Collaborate on projects with Regulated Water Clients including Northern Ireland Water, Irish Water, Severn Trent, Scottish Water Horizons, Welsh Water and Southern Water.
* Opportunity to progress to Associate Director and beyond, combining technical and leadership skills to develop others.
What We Would Like You To Demonstrate
* A relevant degree and chartered status, or significant progress toward ICE, IEI, IoW or CIWEM.
* Clear and successful experience in wastewater hydraulic modelling (InfoWorks ICM) and ability to review the outputs of others.
* Good working knowledge of Water Industry Specifications, Code of Practice for the Hydraulic Modelling of Urban Drainage Systems, and relevant British Standards.
If you don’t meet all criteria, apply anyway and we’ll consider how your experience could align with other roles in the team.
