Hybrid basis in Solihull, UK – a balanced mix of in‑office and remote work.
Responsibilities
* Lead and support a team of approximately 26 Engineers and Data Scientists across Data Engineering, Software Engineering, and Systems Engineering.
* Ensure the Engineering Chapter has the skills, capacity, and confidence to support DevOps product lifecycles and digital product roadmaps.
* Promote continuous improvement in engineering practices, including AI adoption, CI/CD, and GitOps methodologies.
* Mentor and coach the team to build a high‑performing, collaborative, and supportive culture.
* Guide teams to adopt and maintain architectural standards, principles, and guidelines.
* Explore and encourage the adoption of automation, AI, and improvements to the DevOps lifecycle maturity across product and platform teams.
* Manage engineering risks, KPIs, and HR activities, including recruitment, performance reviews, and team wellbeing.
* Build strong relationships with internal IT teams and external partners to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
* Stay curious and informed on emerging technologies and trends to inspire innovation and improvement.
Qualifications
* Degree‑level or equivalent qualification in IT, Engineering, Science, or a related field.
* Experienced IT leader with a track record of managing digital engineering or IT development teams, including budgets and external IT partners.
* Solid understanding of Agile, DevOps, and Product lifecycle methodologies, and how modern engineering tools, platforms, and practices integrate with them.
* Experience managing IT risks, audits, and security compliance collaboratively with stakeholders.
* Excellent strategic thinking, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
* Ability to foster an inclusive, collaborative, and supportive team culture.
Nice to Have
* Knowledge of outsourcing or global delivery methodologies.
* Experience in a regulated environment or within the utilities/energy sector.
* Experience managing relationships with senior or C‑suite partners.
