Role Overview

Head of Security (Cyber Security) – Full‑time, Permanent – Remote, UK – Competitive salary plus bonus potential. Reporting to: CTO.

About the Role

The Head of Security will own the organisation’s entire security landscape across cyber, physical, personnel, and operational resilience. This senior leadership role sits at the heart of the business, ensuring security protects and enables growth.


Key Responsibilities

* Strategic Leadership & Governance
o Report KPIs, threat landscape, and security posture to the Board.
o Lead development and delivery of the organisation‑wide Security Strategy.
o Align security operations with commercial expansion goals.
o Champion a security‑first culture across all departments.
o Shape security as a business‑enabling capability.
* Security Operations & Architecture
o Oversee modern SOC, resilience programmes, red‑teaming, insider threat monitoring, and secure architecture consulting.
o Lead proactive threat intelligence, detection, and response efforts.
o Drive implementation of security‑by‑design principles with engineering and DevSecOps teams.
o Create and mature a Security Architecture function supporting SSDLC and product security.
* Risk, Compliance & Assurance
o Own the enterprise risk register and redefine resilience approach.
o Ensure compliance with local, international, and sector‑specific standards (GDPR, etc.).
o Oversee supply chain and third‑party risk assessments, security onboarding, and vendor compliance.
o Lead ISMS development and manage external audits and certifications.
* Team Leadership & Development
o Build and lead a cross‑disciplinary security team (cyber, physical, personnel, resilience).
o Ensure continuous development and resource alignment.
o Deliver targeted training, simulations, and awareness campaigns.
o Establish performance tracking dashboards and feedback loops.
* Engagement & Stakeholder Management
o Engage with the Senior Leadership Team and contribute to enterprise‑level strategy.
o Collaborate with legal, compliance, and engineering teams to ensure scalable security practices.
o Engage external regulators, government bodies, and strategic partners to influence standards.
* Resilience & Incident Management
o Lead organisation‑wide incident response, recovery, and post‑incident review processes.
o Design and scale resilience testing (tabletop exercises, scenario simulations) to improve maturity and trust.

* Board‑approved Security Strategy aligned with business growth.
* Full visibility of key risks, proactive reporting, measurable security posture improvements.
* A high‑performing, cross‑disciplinary security team established and recognised as a trusted partner.
* Effective SOC, threat intelligence, incident response, and secure architecture with security‑by‑design embedded.
* Compliance demonstrated through audits, certifications, and vendor risk management.
* Embedded incident response and resilience exercises strengthening customer trust.
* Visible strong security culture supported by training, awareness, and engagement.

Requirements

* Proven experience in a senior InfoSec or Head of Security role, preferably in government, defence, law enforcement, or highly regulated sectors.
* Deep understanding of risk management, compliance, and resilience within complex organisations.
* Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience advising C‑level stakeholders and Boards.
* Technical fluency across cybersecurity, security architecture, threat intelligence, and secure development lifecycles.
* Demonstrable track record of building high‑performing, cross‑functional security teams.
* Experience with security standards and frameworks.
* Strategic thinker with the ability to translate evolving threat landscapes into actionable business outcomes.


Security Clearance Requirements

Eligibility for Security Check (SC) clearance is required. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK, have lived in the UK continuously for the past 5 years, not spent more than 6 months outside the UK in total during that period, and be willing to undergo security vetting as part of onboarding.
