Overview
Senior Accountant - Regulatory Reporting
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to manage the completion of regulatory reporting requirements for the UK division and to keep the UK corporate division updated with changes in regulatory reporting requirements. This role is within Canada Life UK, part of Great-West Lifeco, and supports the retirement, investment and protection needs of customers and intermediaries.
Responsibilities
* Manage the process for producing and documenting the quarterly and annual Canada Life Limited (CLL) regulatory returns within regulator deadlines.
* Develop and manage the timetable, monitor progress, prepare and submit reporting packs after internal review and sign-off processes.
* Manage the completion of full balance sheet reconciliations between local and regulatory reporting; review and obtain sign-off for reconciliations.
* Ensure that all validation errors within the regulatory reporting systems are cleared prior to submission.
* Use and develop systems (e.g., SAP, Data Repository, FSAssist and BPC).
* Manage team members as required.
* Produce the annual Hong Kong return and handle related financial paperwork and payments due to Hong Kong.
* Assist with the production of the Financial Statements of CLL so they align with regulatory returns.
* Assist with the preparation of various regulatory returns for FCA-regulated entities in the UK Group of companies.
* Work with external auditors to ensure clean audit reports and reflect any auditor-identified accounting adjustments in the ledgers; ensure operational processes are updated to improve procedures.
* Stay up to date with changes to regulatory reporting requirements from PRA, EIOPA and other regulators and disseminate information to relevant departments as required.
* Identify and implement process changes to improve quality and processing times to meet regulatory reporting deadlines.
* Solvency II Data Governance / ICOFR: ensure appropriate controls over regulatory reporting exist and operate effectively; escalate and remediate data issues or control deficiencies in a timely manner.
Knowledge, Experience & Skills
* Detailed knowledge of the EIOPA/PRA Solvency II / Solvency UK regulations (directives, guidelines, implementing standards and policies).
* Strong technical accounting knowledge.
* Qualified accountant with financial services experience.
* Good proficiency in Excel and Word.
* Excellent self-organization, ability to work independently and manage multi-month projects.
* Excellent verbal communication skills.
* Proven track record of meeting strict deadlines and ability to coordinate with other teams to ensure deadlines are met.
* Ability to communicate complex accounting issues to both finance and non-finance staff.
