Overview
Assistant Professor (Performing Arts) at UMass Boston. The Performing Arts Department, in the College of Liberal Arts, at the University of Massachusetts Boston seeks a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Acting and Directing to begin on September 1, 2026. Primary responsibilities include teaching Theatre Arts majors in the undergraduate performance curriculum and directing one departmental theatre production annually. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in acting and directing at all levels of the curriculum, and will also direct a range of potential theatre productions. Ideally, candidates will have one or more additional strengths in such areas as fight choreography, musical theatre, and movement or voice for the actor. The position holds a 2/2 teaching load with the direction of a theater production counting as one class.
Responsibilities
* Teach undergraduate courses in acting and directing at all levels of the curriculum.
* Direct a departmental theatre production annually, and direct a range of potential theatre productions.
* Advise undergraduate majors and provide service to the Program, College, University and to the profession.
* Demonstrate continued creative and/or scholarly activity and build a suitable portfolio of work for tenure review.
Qualifications
* Terminal degree (MFA or Ph.D.) in hand by August 31, 2026.
* Experience teaching undergraduates and professional experience in acting and/or directing.
