Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant - SEMH and Behaviour
Location: Bury, Greater Manchester
Salary: £102 per day
Contract Type: Full-time, Term-time only
Start Date: January 2026
We are currently recruiting for a passionate and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour at a specialist setting in Bury.
This is a full-time, long-term role where you will play a vital part in supporting vulnerable pupils—many of whom may have experienced trauma, disrupted education, or have additional diagnoses such as autism or ADHD. Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and the school\'s SENCO, you\'ll help pupils manage their emotions, access learning, and build positive relationships.

Responsibilities
* Provide consistent 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
* Assist in the delivery of targeted behaviour and emotional regulation interventions
* Implement personalised support strategies and behaviour plans
* Support pupils in overcoming barriers to learning and engaging with the curriculum
* Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, offering a safe and supportive presence
* Record and report behavioural incidents and progress accurately
* Work collaboratively with the teaching team, SENCO, and external professionals
* Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or in an alternative provision
* Understanding of trauma-informed practice and behaviour de-escalation strategies
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills
* Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
* Familiarity with EHCPs, positive behaviour support plans, and restorative practice
* Team Teach, MAPA, or similar behaviour management training (desirable but not essential)
* Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
* Right to work in the UK
