Overview
We have a great opening for a skilled CNC Miller and Turner to work within a CNC precision machine shop environment. Milling is essential; turning is highly desirable. This role is on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract basis.
Location and Benefits
Based at our Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, with a 4 Day Working Week (Mon – Thu).
Your Role
Involves machine and fixture setting, tool selection, setting work and tool offsets, CNC program editing, machining high-grade aluminium, peak, titanium, and composite carbon fibre materials on multiple machine tools, including 4 and 5 axis machining centres, using various programming languages such as Heidenhain, Siemens, and Fanuc. Producing medium-sized R&D and low-volume high-value components.
Key Duties
* Support development of machining processes and tooling/fixture design.
* Assist in tool selection and optimization, liaising with suppliers.
* Mentor and train team members, including apprentices.
* Work according to specifications, procedures, and engineering drawings.
* Develop and improve work procedures with the engineering team.
* Troubleshoot machine issues and implement corrective actions.
* Prioritize workload to meet deadlines and optimize machine utilization.
* Maintain high quality standards and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Candidate Requirements
* Ability to produce conforming products from detailed engineering drawings.
* Turning experience is highly desirable.
* Proficiency in programming/post-processing using Fanuc, Siemens, and Heidenhain languages.
* Understanding of CAD/CAM software.
* Experience with multi-axis machining (3 to 5 axes).
* Knowledge of inspection techniques and measurement equipment.
* Proven manufacturing experience and general engineering workshop practices.
* Ability to work from written and verbal instructions.
* Independent working skills from concept to manufacture.
* Adherence to housekeeping and 6S standards.
* Knowledge of manual lifting and safety procedures.
* Strong H&S awareness and communication skills.
* SC clearance, with potential for DV clearance.
