Overview
Join the Canal & River Trust today by becoming a Waterway Ranger. This is a great opportunity to make a huge difference to the lives of our canal users. This is a fantastic way to learn more about canals and what’s involved in keeping them alive.
We are looking for friendly faces to come along to the World Heritage Site to assist the Canal and River Trust with keeping the canal area an open access for all site and a litter free place for locals, families and Tourists to enjoy. On your regular walks along the towpath you'll be required to welcome early visitors to the site while collecting any litter you come across, you'll also be required to report any defects or incidents to your task manager and help open-up the visitor centre. All equipment will be provided by Canal & River Trust.
This opportunity would suit someone with a couple of hours to spare one morning a week (8.30am - 10am), although you can dedicate more time if you choose to. We would welcome interest from couples as well as individuals.
Responsibilities
* Talking to customers
* Reporting issues from the Towpath
* Helping Customers
* When you register as a volunteer, we will ask you about any unspent convictions which you need to declare and risk assess these as needs be.
The skills you need
* Great communication skills. This is all about talking to people.
* Practical skills – it’s also about minor maintenance to ensure that your locks are functional.
* Teamworking skills – whilst you may spend some of your time alone, fundamentally you’re part of a team.
What's in it for you
* It's a great way to meet other local volunteers, learn new skills, and hear about other volunteering opportunities if you fancy getting more involved.
