We are seeking a caring, flexible and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team on a temporary basis. This role is to provide one-to-one support for a pupil in Key Stage 2 with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) profile. This post will also include a 2hrs MTA contract to support on the playground over lunch times.
The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to offer consistent, relational support tailored to the pupil’s individual needs.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide one-to-one support for a pupil in KS2, following individual support plans.
2. Use a relational and child-centred approach to build trust and reduce anxiety.
3. Adapt activities and routines to meet the pupil’s needs and help them access the curriculum.
4. Support the development of social, emotional and communication skills in line with EHCP outcomes.
5. Provide intimate care.
6. Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
We are looking for someone who:
7. Has experience supporting children with ASD.
8. Understands the importance of low-arousal, relationship-based approaches.
9. Remains calm, patient, and responsive in challenging situations.
10. Has good communication and teamwork skills.
11. Can show initiative and flexibility in adapting strategies to meet a child’s changing needs.
Desirable:
12. Experience in Early Years or with younger children, particularly supporting early communication and play.
13. Training in relational or trauma-informed approaches PACE, Thrive, or Nurture-based models).
