Youth justice practitioner – youth justice agency

Location: Ballymena
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: Minimum 4 months subject to review
Rate of Pay: £16.45 per hour

Main Duties Include:

1. Deliver early stage Diversion services to children/young people on the fringes of the criminal justice system.
2. Manage, supervise, and deliver PPS plans, court orders, and bail supervision plans.
3. Assess needs and manage risk appropriately, promoting restorative practices, rehabilitation, and resilience.
4. Operate within department guidelines as directed by middle management.
5. Deliver effective social work and youth work services across various intervention stages.
6. Facilitate Youth engagement clinics in partnership with PSNI and PPS.
7. Deliver Community resolution notice programmes to young people referred by PSNI.
8. Arrange assessments to inform tailor-made intervention plans.
9. Work closely with victims to ensure their views are heard and engaged with the process.
10. Ensure interventions are regularly planned, reviewed, and evaluated.
11. Work in partnership with various stakeholders to support positive behavior change and reduce offending.
12. Establish multi-agency networks to deliver interventions and support reintegration.
13. Source, risk assess, and manage Reparative Activity placements.
14. Participate in case conferences, reviews, and relevant meetings.
15. Maintain accurate records in accordance with YJA case recording policy.
16. Participate in training and support of volunteers, students, and sessional workers.
17. Promote and deliver restorative approaches to support children, young people, and victims.
18. Serve as an Officer of the Court, providing high-quality reports and Bail Assessments.
19. Work closely with colleagues in the Juvenile Justice Centre to provide a seamless service to young people in custody.

Essential Criteria:

20. Degree in Social Work or Degree in Youth Work & Community Work (Must be one of the 2 listed degrees)
21. Demonstrated experience working with young people displaying challenging behavior.
22. Experience in writing formal reports.
23. Driving License and access to transport for job responsibilities.
24. Warner interview applicable.

Desired Experience:

25. Knowledge of working with young people in a justice context.
