Trainee Cyber Security Analyst is required at the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) to complement our Cyber security team. Cyber Security has always been a key component to SPSâs Digital Services department and the organisation as a whole, however changes, audience and coverage in the services we provide mean that we now have a greater footprint to secure and require to enhance our capabilities.\n\nAdditionally, SPSâs general direction of travel is moving previously internally hosted services to the cloud â as well as new services starting from being cloud hosted â and this also brings a new dimension to how we secure our systems and services. The Cyber Security apprentice will work primarily within the Network and Security team but will also work with the Systems and Field support sections.\n\nWorking with Vulnerability scanning tools and monitoring tools will be part of the job and it would be an advantage if applicants had some prior experience in these areas.\n\nWe offer a Hybrid working model, with a combination of working from home, and from our office in the west of Edinburgh, with the majority of time spent in the office. Provision is also given for the time required to be spent at university.\n\nPrimary responsibilities include:\n- Assist SPS Digital Services team to design, implement and integrate monitoring and analysis systems into SPS Digital Services portfolio. \n- Undertake log analysis, leveraging automation where possible. \n- Investigate security breaches and other cyber security incidents.\n- Assist with operation and management of information security systems\n- Provide Cyber Security assistance in-house.\n- Assist SPS Digital Services team to design, implement and integrate monitoring and analysis systems into SPS Digital Services portfolio. As a Graduate Apprentice you will study for your degree alongside your job, spending approximately 80% of your time in work and 20% in university. This unique combination offers an integrated experience, where practical skills and knowledge gained during the university days can be embedded in your working practices. Skills learned directly in the workplace are aligned with and can be applied to coursework and assessment. This allows you to attain an honours degree in 4 years, the same time as traditional full-time students.\n\nYou will study on a Graduate Apprenticeship degree programme towards a BEng (Hons) Cyber Security at Edinburgh Napier University. This course provides relevant fundamental knowledge related to Cyber Security such as encryption and authentication, and also provides relevant practical examples through lab-based practice, while emphasising engineering practice.\n\nYou will initially be taught the principles of security and digital forensics using specialist software and equipment. You will then develop the ability to apply professional standards to the analysis, design, testing and evaluation of reliable and maintainable software. To meet our Standard Entry Requirements you must have EITHER: \n- Four SQA Highers at Grade BBBB (or equivalent) including Maths, Statistics or Physics. National 5 grade C in Maths/Lifeskills Maths/Applications of Maths and English are required if not taken at Higher\n- A Foundation Apprenticeship in IT: Software Development at SCQF Level 6 plus two SQA Highers at Grade BB\n- A Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6-7 in an ICT/Digital related discipline\n- HNC or HND in an unrelated discipline plus Higher Maths, Statistics or Physics at Grade B\n- Sufficient recognition of prior learning (RPL) through industry-related experience, qualifications, and informal learning. RPL applications are considered on an individual basis\n\nYou must be able to provide proof of any qualifications stated on your CV to meet university entry requirements.\n\nAdvanced entry into Year 2 or 3 is possible for students with suitable qualifications. If applying for advanced entry, you will need to provide sufficient evidence of qualifications and experience through our process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Applications are considered on an individual basis.\nYou must be able to provide proof of any qualifications stated on your CV to meet university entry requirements.\n\nSPS recruitment and selection practice is based on the fundamentals of our Competencies for Success Framework. This identifies behaviours and standards required both of applicants seeking to join us, and our staff in their respective roles. Assessment of specific behaviours, of which there are eight, will be determined by the role you are applying for. Whilst it is unlikely you will be assessed on all of them, you will be assessed on those identified as key to role.
