Clinical Nurse Specialist (Inherited Cardiac Conditions)

This is an exciting opportunity for either a specialist nurse or genetics counsellor with experience in inherited cardiac conditions. We are looking for a genetics counsellor or specialist nurse to join our pan regional multidisciplinary team.

This is a new role providing an exciting opportunity to develop and implement the Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) pathway across the Peninsula. You will play a role in supporting families affected by a sudden cardiac death, and requiring specialist input from cardiology and genetic services. You will help coordinate their care and facilitate them receiving timely, compassionate and evidence-based assessment.

Working within a multidisciplinary and multi-agency framework, you will collaborate closely with cardiology, genetic/genomic services, and coronial services and other regional partners to embed this pathway across the Peninsula.

* Coordinating care for bereaved families at a highly sensitive time
* Providing specialist counselling and clinical advice
* Obtaining informed consent for DNA storage and appropriate genomic testing
* Facilitating access to appropriate cardiac screening
* Delivering education and guidance to healthcare and other professionals
* Contributing to service development and regional pathway implementation

The successful candidate will bring advanced clinical expertise, strong leadership skills and experience in service development. You will be confident working autonomously while also contributing effectively within a collaborative regional team.

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to families following sudden cardiac death, ensuring access to recommended investigation, screening and genomic testing where appropriate.

The South West Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (SW GMSA) works with partners across the South West Healthcare services to ensure the successful delivery of NHS England's national genomic strategy. Working in partnership, we work to ensure equity of access to appropriate genetic testing for patients and their families and to ensure the delivery of a patient centred, high-quality and innovation driven genomic medicine service.


Working Pattern

37.5 hours per week or as agreed

This is a fixed term contract for 12 months. For current NHS employees this post could be a secondment opportunity.


Pay

The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2026-7 rates, inclusive of a 3.3% pay award implemented from April 2026. If you join before this date, remuneration will be based on the 2025-6 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2025/26 | NHS Employers)
