The Role
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for projects by analysing drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation. The role involves determining the total cost of materials, labour, equipment, and subcontracted work to support project bidding, budgeting, and planning. The Estimator works closely with the Head of Commercial to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
Key Responsibilities
* Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and related documents to prepare detailed and accurate estimates.
* Perform quantity take-offs for materials, labour, and equipment.
* Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
* Prepare and maintain a database of unit costs, labour rates, and material pricing.
* Develop cost summaries and breakdowns for presentation to management and clients.
* Collaborate with project managers and engineers during pre-construction and design phases to provide cost input and value engineering options.
* Assess project risks and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
* Participate in tender reviews and bid submissions, ensuring all requirements are met.
* Track and analyse historical cost data to improve future estimates.
* Maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling all bid and pricing information.
