Job Description

Sessional Play Workers needed for ASN Summer Club

Inverclyde Council is looking to recruit support staff experienced in working with children with additional support needs (ASN) to support its summer club.

The council aims to increase the number of places available to ASN children over the summer holidays and needs to hire more staff to achieve this.

Councillor Jim Clocherty, convener of education and communities, stated: "We know parents have been asking for extra spaces for ASN children, but we need enough staff to offer this. We understand the positive impact this support has on parents during the summer holidays, and of course, the children love it too."

If you or someone you know fits the criteria and is interested in extra summer work, please get in touch.

The summer club is expected to run for four weeks from Monday, 30 June to Friday, 25 July 2025. If you are unable to work all four weeks, we still encourage you to apply. The location will be Craigmarloch School, Port Glasgow, with working hours from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Flexible and part-time hours are available.

Please see the job description for detailed duties.

The minimum qualification required is SVQ Level 2 in Playwork; SCQF Level 5 in Childcare or above is also acceptable. You must be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a Support Worker.

Previous experience working with children with ASN in out-of-school services, schools, or early years settings is essential. Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills are required. Knowledge of health and safety regulations is advantageous.

To apply, click the "Apply" button. Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis, so early submission is recommended. Interviews are provisionally scheduled for 12 or 13 May 2025.

For questions or to discuss the positions, please email with the subject: ASN support staff recruitment, including your full name and contact number.

Inverclyde Council offers benefits such as flexible working, attractive pension schemes, a Buy and Bank Annual Leave Scheme, career development opportunities, and health and wellbeing support. More information can be found in the Employee Benefits Booklet on our website.
