Tracheostomy Lead Allied Health Professional (SALT) or Nurse

We have an exciting opportunity a registered health care professional to join the Trust into our Tracheostomy Lead post as a job share to compliment our existing staff. We have 0.5wte Band 7 posts available and we are looking either a Registered Nurse or Speech and language therapist with experience of clinical input into patients with tracheostomies and laryngectomies.


Main duties of the job

You will work alongside clinical experts to co-ordinate the management of adult patients with tracheostomies at BTHFT. You will provide leadership to enable the Trust to provide safe and effective care by supporting appropriate training and education, ensuring national guidance is adhered to, overseeing quality governance, clinical audit, quality improvement, and encouraging MDT collaboration.

This is a Monday to Friday service and the post holders will need to factor in some time during the week to hand over to each other and to ensure continuity of the service across the week.

Person Specification


Experience

* Significant post registration experience, including experience of working in a relevant clinical specialty.
* Experience of working in an MDT and across organisational and professional boundaries.
* Experience of teaching/ assessing/ supervising others in a clinical setting.
* Evidence of applying evidence based practice.
* Experience of clinical input into patients with tracheostomies and laryngectomies.
* Experience of leading people/line management responsibility.
* Experience of standard setting and auditing.
* Experience of policy development.
* Experience of service development.
* Experience of leading and managing change.
* Experience of project management.
* Research experience.


Skills

* Tracheostomy and Laryngectomy competent in day to day care and emergency management process.
* Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients and give relevant advice/information to patients and relatives.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information.
* Resuscitation skills.
* Specific Infection Prevention and control measures with this patient group
* Highly motivated and able to use initiative.
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload.
* Ability to lead and work as part of a team.
* Demonstrate analytical and judgemental skills.
* Ability to quickly appraise situation and act accordingly.
* Organisation and negotiation skills.
* Analytical approach to problem solving.
* Evidence of clinical leadership skills development.


Knowledge

* Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality.
* Speciality knowledge with respect of the care and management of tracheostomies and laryngectomies.
* Knowledge and understanding of application of relevant National Guidance e.g. National Service Frameworks, NICE, ICS, NTSP, NCEPOD recommendations
* Knowledge of evidence based practice in this clinical area
* Comprehensive knowledge of the NHS national and Trust's targets and priorities.
* Demonstrate an awareness of clinical governance and risk Management.
* Understanding of patient pathways and its complexities and how to support the patient through this.
* Understand the national specialty and professional agenda.


Qualifications

* BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience.
* Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD.
