Responsibilities include:
1. Technical Duties
o Prepare gross surgical specimens for Pathology Assistant or Pathologist.
2. Other duties
o Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing specimens and slides.
3. Quality
o Investigate and document problems with unacceptable specimens.
4. Problem solving
o Follow established guidelines for troubleshooting instrument, reagent, or specimen problems.
5. Regulation Compliance
o Comply with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety.
6. People
o Participate in staff meetings and promote effective working relationships.
7. Customer Service
o Use patient/family-centered values and conduct all work activities with respect to the rights and wishes of patients, visitors, and patients' families.
Qualifications
Education
Successfully completed a NAACLS-accredited histotechnician program within the last 5 years, or possess a current HT(ASCP) certification. Alternatively, at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, including 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), or an associate degree with similar coursework, and one year of full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory.
Experience
Three years of histology experience preferred.
Licensure
ASCP certification (HT-ASCP) preferred.
