Community Consultant Paediatrician

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Consultant Community Paediatrician to join our Child Health team. This is a fixed‑term post for 12 months, with potential for ongoing substantive funding. The post is 0.6 WTE (6 PAs), offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to high‑quality community paediatric services across Torbay and South Devon.
We are looking for applicants with Community Child Health experience and/or RCPCH GRID training in CCH or equivalent, who are passionate about improving the lives of children, young people and their families, and are prepared to embrace the challenges set forth in the NHS 10‑Year Plan to shift care into communities and improve prevention of ill health.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Paediatric team at Torbay Hospital, working alongside a range of community and acute colleagues in a vibrant, collegiate and forward‑thinking department that serves the unique coastal and rural populations of Torbay and South Devon. We face some unique demographic and geographical challenges, with high levels of poverty, Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), and children facing multiple adversities growing up.
Main duties of the job
Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and management of children with neurodevelopmental disorders, disabilities, and complex behavioural needs.
Undertake statutory medical assessments for children in care and contribute to safeguarding processes.
Supervise and support the Community Paediatrics GRID trainee, contributing to their educational development and clinical training.

Job responsibilities
Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT), including health, education, social care, local authorities, and voluntary sector organisations.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and joint assessments with community partners.
Deliver outpatient clinics across community settings, including child development centres and special schools.
Contribute to service development, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
Participate in peer review, audit, and continuing professional development activities.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with a license to practice
* MRCPCH or equivalent
* MD, MSc.
Experience
* To have achieved CCT in paediatrics or can provide evidence that they are within 6 months of the CCT date at the time of interview and is expected to achieve CCT.
* Completion of RCPCH Community Child Health GRID training
* Extensive experience in community paediatrics
* Knowledge of safeguarding, SEND, and statutory responsibilities
* Excellent communication and team‑working skills
* Commitment to providing general holistic care.
* Can operate both individually in decision making and as part of a team
* Additional or relevant qualifications, subspecialities or experience in safeguarding, looked after children, complex conditions, neurodiversity integrated physical and mental health.
