HSE Programme & Performance Manager UK, Ireland, Poland & Nordics
Altrad are currently on the lookout for a HSE Programme & Performance Manager to join the business to champion transformational change in HSE performance. Reporting directly to the SVP HSE for the region, you will play a pivotal role as part of our Senior Leadership Team, shaping the Health, Safety, and Environmental strategy across all markets. This is a high-impact position leading a team of experienced and passionate HSE professionals, driving excellence and embedding a culture of safety throughout the organisation
Key Deliverables
Lead the operationalisation of the HSE strategy, delivering a step change in performance and embedding a culture of safety and continuous improvement across the region.
Shape and implement HSE policies, guidelines, and management systems, ensuring robust health, safety, environmental, and crisis management measures are in place.
Oversee data-driven decision-making, including statistical trend analysis, performance dashboards, and actionable improvement plans based on insights.
Drive regulatory compliance and governance, ensuring adherence to local, regional, and international standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO
Champion risk planning and verification processes, working proactively with operational teams identifying and mitigating HSE risks across the region.
Provide technical leadership and stakeholder engagement, acting as the primary HSE ambassador with internal teams, clients, regulators, and industry bodies.
Oversee and support incident investigations and crisis response, embedding lessons learned into organisational processes.
Promote innovation and digital transformation, leveraging technology and analytics to enhance HSE monitoring and predictive risk management.
Foster a collaborative HSE community, supporting Regional HSE Managers, site-based teams, and operational leaders to build a high-performance safety culture.
Develop and mentor future HSE leaders, ensuring succession planning and capability building within the team.
Align HSE strategy with sustainability and ESG objectives, driving environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
Manage HSE budgets and resources, ensuring effective allocation to deliver strategic priorities.
Support work-winning activities, providing data, case studies, and responses to tenders to strengthen client confidence and business growth.
Collaborate with regional stakeholders to embed best practices and share learning across all levels, driving continuous improvement in HSE performance.
Ensure accurate collection, analysis, and reporting of HSE data, using insights to develop improvement plans and predictive strategies that enhance overall performance.
Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing team of HSE professionals, ensuring technical excellence, resource availability, and robust succession planning.
Champion knowledge-sharing and innovation, promoting human and organisational leadership programmes and leveraging technology to improve HSE outcomes.
Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, influencing strategic decisions and ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and organisational objectives.
Provide expert HSE input to bids and tenders, showcasing industry-leading practices and technical expertise to strengthen client confidence and support business growth.
Key Requirements
NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) as a minimum; Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) or equivalent professional accreditation preferred.
Extensive and demonstrable experience in Engineering Construction across high-risk sectors such as Nuclear, Energy, Industrial, Oil & Gas, and Pharmaceuticals.
Minimum 10 years' experience leading large, diverse teams of HSE professionals in complex, high-risk environments.
Proven track record of leading national or multi-regional change programmes, delivering cultural transformation and measurable improvements in HSE performance.
Experience in developing and implementing HSE strategies, policies, and management systems aligned with international standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO
Strong background in data-driven decision-making, including performance analysis, trend identification, and improvement planning.
Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders, clients, and regulators, acting as a trusted advisor on HSE matters.
Experience in work-winning activities, providing technical input to bids and tenders to showcase HSE capability.
Familiarity with digital tools and technology for HSE performance monitoring and predictive risk management.
Sound financial and commercial acumen, with experience managing budgets and resources effectively.
Knowledge of ESG principles and sustainability integration within HSE frameworks.
