Mae’r ddogfen hon ar gael yn Gymraeg / This document is also available in Welsh.

Do you have what it takes to make a positive difference in the lives of children and young people? Are you a hardworking and resilient individual who is able to engage with and emotionally support children and young people?

An opportunity has arisen to recruit a Night Residential Child Care Practitioner (NRCCP) at Beddau Community Home. Night shifts are typically worked between 10.30pm and 7.30am, for which Night Enhancement is payable.

Role & Responsibilities

You will be part of a caring team that provides a safe, nurturing home, led and supported by an experienced Registered Manager and Senior staff. Successful applicants will be committed to improving the lives of children with complex needs and those who have experienced childhood trauma. You will be committed to understanding individual past experiences of children and young people, and show compassion in your approach to the impact of these on the ability to settle and sleep at night.

Providing emotional, physical and personal care and support for children and young people, you will need to work creatively with a high level of active engagement in activities and direct work. You will be supported and trained to practice in a therapeutic environment, utilising the Trauma Recovery Model of care. You will provide emotional, physical and personal care and support to enable children and young people to reach their full potential, sometimes in challenging situations where you need to be responsive to issues outside the home. The ability to travel independently is required for this role.

Much of your role will be spent supporting individuals throughout the night. There may occasionally be a need for you to have contact with services, such as Police, Health and the Emergency Duty Team, to deal with urgent situations, and you will be supported by a staff member at the home who is available for such situations. Once children and young people are settled, duties will include preparing the home for the following day – general household tasks such as cleaning, ironing or cooking.

Qualifications & Requirements

* QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) or predecessor qualification NVQ Level 3 (Children and Young People). You will be registered with Social Care Wales.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Positivity and resilience.
* Commitment to providing safe and caring environments for children and young people to learn and grow.
* Compassion, empathy and an enthusiasm to promote individual choice.
* Ability to invest in developing trusting relationships.
* Enthusiasm and commitment to your own learning.
* Ability to work flexibly (including bank holidays, weekends, and sleep‑in duties). May be required to work in other residential locations.

Offer & Benefits

We offer a dedicated in‑house Learning and Development Centre and support staff to maintain skills and continuous professional development. Successful applicants will be fully funded to receive the necessary training and support required to undertake the role. Those without the relevant qualification will be supported to achieve the QCF Level 3 Diploma within 2 years of appointment.

Benefits for RCT Council employees include:

* 26 days Annual Leave, rising to 31 days after 5 years’ service. Option to purchase additional annual leave up to 10 days (pro rata) per year.
* Cycle to Work Scheme.
* Discounted LeisureForLife Membership.
* Vivup Card (staff discount).
* Access to Occupational Health Unit and CARI, a digital confidential wellbeing tool.

Equal Opportunities

The Council values diversity in its workforce and is committed to preventing unlawful discrimination on the basis of age, sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, transgender, non‑binary identities, religion or belief, and pregnancy and maternity. We support staff networks including the Allies Network, Disability and Carers Network and Perthyn LGBTQ+ Network. A successful applicant for this role will also be subject to an enhanced disclosure and barring service check.

Applications submitted for this post in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application made in English. As part of the Council’s Welsh language and workforce planning strategy, a guaranteed interview scheme is available for Welsh‑speakers of Level 3 and above.

We encourage applications from care‑experienced leavers and will guarantee an interview for any care‑experienced leaver who meets the essential criteria for the role.

Protecting children and vulnerable adults is a core responsibility of all staff appointed to the Council.
