Registered Manager – Children’s Residential Services Location: Middlesbrough (Redcar & Cleveland area) Salary: £45,827.60 – £52,407.07 per annum Hours: Full-time, permanent Service: Children’s Home (autism/neurodiversity specialist) Sponsorship: Not available The Home This is a specialist children’s home supporting autistic and/or neurodivergent children and young people, including those with additional needs and behaviours that can challenge. The home is registered for 8 beds and is currently operating at 4, with plans to increase occupancy in line with staffing and referrals. The Role As the named Registered Manager, you will lead the home and ensure the highest standards of care, safeguarding, and regulatory compliance. You will oversee a team of residential staff and deliver a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where children can thrive and develop independence. Key responsibilities include: • Being the named Registered Manager for the home and ensuring full compliance with legislation, quality standards, and best practice • Safeguarding children and promoting welfare, ensuring staff follow safeguarding procedures and policy at all times • Leading high-quality care planning and multi-agency working (Placement Plans, STEP plans, Health Action Plans, education and therapeutic input) • Ensuring children’s health needs are met, including medication oversight, accurate records, and access to health professionals • Supporting meaningful family engagement where appropriate, maintaining positive relationships and communication • Delivering and monitoring a 24-hour programme that supports routines, education, communication, wellbeing and development • Ensuring reviews take place within statutory timescales, chairing and minuting where required • Managing incidents and ensuring physical interventions are a last resort and fully recorded • Providing strong leadership through supervision, appraisal, performance management, and building an inclusive, empowered team culture • Overseeing effective rota management, recruitment, induction, training compliance, and staff development • Maintaining strong governance and compliance requirements including support for Regulation 44 and completion of Regulation 45 reviews • Ensuring the home is well-run operationally and financially, with robust record keeping and effective budget management • Maintaining premises standards, safety checks and statutory logs (fire, visitors, maintenance, accident book, etc.) This role can involve flexible working to meet service needs, including on-call duties and occasional cover, where practicable. Who We’re Looking For ✅ You’ll be a resilient, child-centred leader who can stay calm in challenging or crisis situations and confidently apply training and therapeutic approaches in practice. Essential: • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent) • Significant experience in children’s residential care, including supervisory experience • Within the last 5 years: at least 2 years in a role relevant to children’s residential care, including at least 1 year supervising/managing staff in a care role • Strong safeguarding knowledge and understanding of Children’s Homes Regulations (2015) • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including understanding different communication needs (including non-verbal communication) • Competent IT skills (emails, word processing, internet) • Experience working with families, professionals and multi-agency teams • Confidence with data, reporting and confidentiality, including Reg 44 and 45 requirements • Budget management competence for both the home and young people • Full UK driving licence, clean, with ability to drive Desirable: • A1 Assessor qualification • Autism-specific qualification • Safeguarding Children Designated Person • STEP trained (or similar) • Experience recruiting and retaining staff, and delivering induction/training • Experience managing a residential home (or similar) • First aid knowledge The Organisation You’ll be joining a well-established, values-led charity provider with a long track record of supporting autistic and neurodivergent individuals across the North East.
