The Role
The Senior Project Manager leads the delivery of complex, high-value capital projects critical to the airport’s long-term growth, operational resilience, and compliance. They manage projects end-to-end, from concept and business case through design, construction, and handover.
With accountability for project scope, cost, and performance, the Senior Project Manager oversees budgets typically exceeding £10 million, leading commercial strategy, procurement, and value engineering to ensure delivery within budget and aligned with investment governance.
This role includes line‑management responsibility for Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers, fostering a high‑performing delivery team through leadership, development, and resource planning.
The Senior Project Manager coordinates across technical teams, delivery partners, and stakeholders to meet regulatory, operational, and sustainability objectives, emphasising safe delivery in live airport environments.
Key Accountabilities
* Lead the end-to-end delivery of complex capital projects typically exceeding £10 million in value.
* Own and drive the business case, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and investment governance.
* Manage all phases of the project lifecycle, including design (RIBA stages), procurement, construction, and handover.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards (e.g. ASIAD, CAA, building regs, environmental).
* Lead multidisciplinary project teams, consultants, and contractors to deliver safe, high‑quality, and operationally viable outcomes.
* Take full budget accountability, including cost planning, commercial management, risk mitigation, and value engineering.
* Champion sustainability and long‑term asset performance in project scoping and delivery.
* Provide reporting, assurance, and governance updates at programme and portfolio level.
* Ensure full compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, airport‑specific safety protocols, and CDM (Construction Design and Management) Regulations throughout the entire project lifecycle.
What would make you successful in this role?
* Chartered Professional status.
* APM Project Managers Qualification (or equivalent).
* NEC ECC Project Manager Accreditation or equivalent complex engineering and construction contract experience such as JCT.
* Full working knowledge of Construction Design Management 2015 regulations.
* Line Management of Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers to deliver a project portfolio.
* Strong commercial acumen for managing project risks and costs.
* Ability to manage multiple project types and complexity in different environments (greenfield, brownfield, internal and strategic) through the full project lifecycle whilst maintaining complex operational needs.
* Present project progress and influence the Senior Leadership team on key business decisions.
* Lead stakeholder management skills; able to engage and communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and to effectively manage conflicting stakeholder demands.
* Validate Contractor submissions to ensure compliance with MAG Health & Safety policy.
