Principal EC&I Engineer
Locations: Warrington, Cheshire; Abingdon, Oxfordshire; Glasgow

Main Purpose of Job:
Define and distribute the scope of work to ensure all tasks are executed safely, on time, and meet quality standards. Deliver all design and engineering work to satisfy requirements of Design Reviews and HAZOPs within project procedures. Supervise less experienced engineers, manage engineering resources, and conduct interviews.
Position in Organisation:
* Report to Principal Engineers; ultimate line management with the Chief Engineer in your discipline.
* Supervise a design or project team of up to 5 engineers, possibly supplemented by staff from other areas.
* Allocate work, manage quality, progress, and project costs.
* Manage project subcontracts.
* Engage regularly with clients and other engineering disciplines' managers.
* Handle communications within the project team.
Key Accountabilities:
* Design, specification, procurement, supply/manufacture liaison, installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, and operator training in nuclear engineering projects.
* Review and approve project deliverables.
* Coordinate with other disciplines.
* Provide technical consultancy.
* Manage projects including quality, progress, costs, and documentation.
* Support sales and customer care.
* Manage contractors and subcontractors, staff development.
* Promote safety culture, ensure compliance with safety regulations (e.g., CDM, CE marking), and apply safety systems.
* Ensure statutory regulation compliance.

Experience and attributes required:
Essential:
* Degree in a relevant technical/engineering discipline or demonstrable experience.
* Full UK driver’s license.
* Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
* At least 5 years’ experience in the nuclear industry.
* Understanding of design requirements supporting nuclear safety cases.
* Experience managing sub-contracts.
* Knowledge of safety regulations including CDM.
* Experience reviewing design documentation, drawings, and calculations.
* Leadership experience in a professional project environment.
* Strong organizational and collaboration skills.
* Ability to work under tight deadlines.
Desirable:
* Chartered Engineer or nearing chartership; membership of relevant institutions (e.g., IET).
* EC&I design integration with control systems (PLC/SCADA).
* Experience with design substantiation for safety cases.
* Experience in the defense sector is a plus.
