Overview
To provide autonomous advanced specialist assessment, treatment and management for inpatients presenting with a range of complex dysphagia and communication difficulties. To ensure that patients on the acute wards are supported to communicate by facilitating partnership working with families and loved ones, using low and high tech AAC. To plan and carry out joint assessments with the MDT as required. To attend ward rounds as required to contribute to clinical discussion and devising MDT treatment plans. To make appropriate referrals and participate in the rota for videofluoroscopy clinic. To support acute ward areas by providing advanced specialist assessment, treatment and management for inpatients presenting with a range of complex dysphagia and communication difficulties.
To contribute to education and training in specialist area for SLT CPD, SLT students and members of the MDT. To maintain a high standard of governance for specialist clinical area, for example maintaining mandatory training, up to date CPD and professional standards and contributing to audit. To support leadership within the department, by ensuring effective day to day organisation and provision of SLT service to acute wards, promoting and leading on service improvements and supporting all staff to maintain professional standards.
To work autonomously to manage a defined patient caseload whilst working as part of a multidisciplinary team, referring to a senior medical clinician as and when required.
To maintain professional practice within the context of the Health & Care Professions Council. This includes standards of proficiency, conduct and performance, ethics and continuing professional development.
To manage a defined case load, demonstrating appropriate time management and organisation skills.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to education and training in the specialist area for SLT CPD, SLT students and MDT members.
* Maintain governance standards: mandatory training, up to date CPD and professional standards; contribute to audit.
* Support departmental leadership: ensure effective day-to-day organisation and provision of SLT service to acute wards; promote service improvements and support staff to maintain professional standards.
* Work autonomously to manage a defined patient caseload within a multidisciplinary team; refer to a senior medical clinician as required.
* Maintain professional practice in line with HCPC standards (proficiency, conduct, performance, ethics, continuing professional development).
* Manage a defined caseload with good time management and organisation.
Qualifications/Experience
* Experience in autonomous advanced specialist assessment, treatment and management for inpatients with complex dysphagia and communication difficulties.
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and maintain professional practice in line with HCPC standards.
