Northern Trains supports the economic, social and environmental development of the North. The Strategic Planning Team plays a key role in delivering this vision through high‑quality analysis and long‑term planning.
JOB ROLE: Analysis & Appraisal Manager
SALARY: £43,934
ROLE TYPE: Hybrid
HOURS: 37 per week
LOCATION: George Stephen House, York
Key Responsibilities
* Develop Treasury‑compliant business cases for investment across Northern and the North.
* Lead analytical assessment of impacts on timetable, rolling stock, capacity, performance, revenue and costs.
* Produce insight to support investment cases and business change decisions.
* Extract and interpret data from internal models and systems.
* Build and maintain forecasting and analytical models.
* Engage with internal teams and external stakeholders to support scheme development.
* Manage and prioritise a pipeline of business impact assessments.
* Ensure compliance with DfT and industry appraisal standards.
* Support development of long‑term strategic business plans.
* Deliver complex analysis and provide guidance to analysts.
* Present findings to senior internal and external stakeholders.
* Support evaluation of investment outcomes.
Skills & Experience
* Strong analytical and numerical skills.
* Experience working with large datasets.
* Advanced Excel and modelling skills.
* Ability to build forecasting and appraisal models.
* Strong written and verbal communication.
* Degree in Economics, Mathematics or a similar discipline.
