The Role



The Student Success Unit is responsible for developing and supporting the delivery of an outstanding and distinctive student experience so that students can have a good quality University experience. As part of Student Success, the Careers Service supports all students and recent graduates towards a positive graduate outcome.



The role is part of one of our three designated Careers & Employability teams responsible for ensuring our current students and recent graduates have access to the best possible curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular employability and enterprise provision. The portfolios of responsibility are as follows:

* HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences)
* SAgE (Science, Agriculture and Engineering)
* FMS (Faculty of Medical Sciences) and Careers Central Offer.



You will work as part of a team supported by a Faculty Engagement Manager as an expert and specialist in curricular delivery, providing opportunities both centrally and within the faculty that spark curiosity for all our students so that they can develop their interests, resilience, and capabilities for success in their future working lives. Through collaboration with our colleagues, students, and industry partners, you will use your pedagogical expertise to co-design and deliver curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular experiences which enrich our students’ studies and align with Service and Faculty strategic plans. These will support personal growth, networks, and professional development so that students can fulfil their potential on graduation and beyond.



Key Accountabilities

* In collaboration with your Senior Manager and Faculty Engagement Manager, design, develop and deliver student-facing activity, in line with your professional aptitudes and skills, this may include:

* Using your curricular expertise provide a consultancy service in your Faculty team, advising key contacts in schools on the best ways to support and develop their students’ employability and enterprise skills
* As part of your team, find opportunities to collaborate within the Careers Service and across the University to design tailored curricular and co-curricular employability interventions for students at points of transition and choice.
* Work with colleagues across Student Success using your expertise to lead on ensuring the design and delivery of our provision considers the needs and requirements of designated service user groups (e.g., students with additional needs, international students, Early Career Researchers, or Degree Apprentices).
* Using management data, work with colleagues in your team and within the schools to develop targeted approaches to addressing student needs.
* Monitor and evaluate outcomes from activities to inform team level decisions on approaches and priorities and create relevant and effective curricular or co-curricular activities.
* In collaboration with your team and colleagues in your allocated areas of responsibility, develop a network of academic and professional services colleagues who can champion employability and its associated benefits.
* Work with teams across the Student Success Unit and in your designated Faculty to identify and facilitate opportunities for employers to contribute to curricular and co-curricular interventions in support of students’ skills development.
* Develop effective networks external to the institution, and with relevant professional societies, to gather and share good practice.
* With direction and support from the Faculty Engagement Manager, write appropriate reports and papers and make presentations to a variety of audiences so that the work of the Careers Service is recognised for quality of practice.
* Contribute to cross-service themes and lead and/or take part in cross-service projects.
* Undertake any other duties reasonably requested in the delivery of the Careers Service’s strategic objectives including occasional out of hours/evening work.



The Person (Essential)



Knowledge, Skills and Experience

* An up-to-date understanding of the student and graduate labour market, particularly relating to students’ skills development, employer selection processes and choices around employment, self-employment and further study.
* An up-to-date knowledge of graduate employability, careers education and guidance and practice relating to teaching, learning and assessment in Higher Education.
* A good understanding of the HE sector- its business, latest developments and issues
* Evidence of experience of teaching and assessing in higher education.
* Ability to devise and deliver interactive group sessions and workshops.
* Self-reliance skills to manage and prioritise a complex workload.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to find collective solutions through teamwork and gather different perspectives and insights through networking.
* An up-to-date knowledge of graduate employability, self-employment policy and practice relating to teaching, learning and assessment in higher education.
* Willingness and capability to undertake supplementary skill development and appropriate scholarship.

Qualifications

* Educated to at least degree level (or equivalent)
Plus
* A relevant professional qualification in teaching and learning with accreditation such as FHEA (Fellow of the Higher Education of Academy) or similar or a willingness and aptitude to work towards such a qualification.
