Overview
The post holder will be a member of Immunisation team and work alongside the Immunisation Team Leader providing professional support and leadership to team members.
The role combines both managerial and clinical elements; you will provide day to day management for the immunisation team whilst supporting the delivery of the national childhood immunisation programme across the Mersey Care Footprint. You will also provide expert advice to the wider 0 - 19 children\'s nursing teams in addition to practice nurses, parents, carers, and children and young people advising about immunisations.
Job responsibilities
Responsible for the provision of appropriate, high-quality care to children and young people.
Responsible for workload planning and delegation of work to other team members, considering competence; work in partnership with other professionals to enable patients/clients to be maintained in an appropriate environment, thus avoiding hospital admission.
Provide advice to patients, clients and carers on vaccinations and a wide range of health issues including health promotion, lifestyle advice and healthcare.
Provide clinical support and training to experienced and new staff within the immunisation team and wider Mersey Care child health teams.
Lead on development of new ways of working to provide a responsive service to children, young people and their families, in conjunction with the team leader.
Establish and maintain effective communication with relevant agencies and professionals across health, social care and education services.
Maintain registration in line with professional requirements; clinically lead, direct, mentor and support the team with regular clinical and managerial supervision.
Demonstrate leadership through change within own scope of practice and contribute to the effectiveness and success of the Trust.
Demonstrate accountability in the use and management of resources including financial resources; assess capacity and obtain valid informed consent within legal frameworks.
Be an advocate for patients and continually demonstrate effective communication with patients, carers and children and young people; be a role model to team members and students.
Contribute to policy and service development to reflect local population needs; participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the clinical team canvas.
Provide information to the team leader on staff and patient/activity to enable effective service management; support practice development, improvement and service modernisation initiatives.
Monitor sickness, absence and other issues; provide day-to-day supervision and induction for new team members; undertake personal development plans with team members as delegated.
Act as an authorised signatory for mileage and timecards; be responsible and accountable for your own work including the management of patients in your team.
Perform clinical and environmental risk assessments to optimise health and safety; clinical assessment of children requiring immunisation including planning, administration, education and parental/carer guidance.
Coordinate vaccine ordering, equipment and storage; liaise with GPs to obtain accurate immunisation histories and ensure up-to-date patient records.
Provide expert immunisation advice to peers, colleagues, GPs, parents and carers; seek specialist advice or signpost as required.
Offer a nurse-led immunisation service under the Patient Group Directions framework (Routine Child Immunisations, School-based immunisations, Fluenz).
Maintain competency in emergency treatment and ensure access to emergency equipment; participate in individual and group supervision.
Monitor record keeping; support training and development of team members to improve patient care; contribute to clinical governance initiatives and patient satisfaction reporting.
Support personal development and learning within the team; facilitate student placements and supervision; participate in audits and research as required.
The post holder may provide cover for absent colleagues and must follow all organisational policies and procedures.
