Echelon Engineers are supporting a respected precision manufacturing business known for producing bespoke mechanical components and assemblies for clients across the process industries.
They are seeking an experienced Manufacturing / Purchasing Engineer to join their operations team. This is a hands-on role for someone with a strong mechanical background who enjoys taking ownership of materials, components, and outsourced machining, ensuring everything arrives on time, to spec, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities

Manage end-to-end purchasing for raw materials, machining, and secondary processing.

Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, ensuring quality, reliability, and cost efficiency.
*
Work closely with production, fabrication, and stores to maintain optimal stock levels.
*
Negotiate costs, lead times, and terms while upholding high quality standards.
*
Verify that all goods and services meet engineering and quality requirements.
*
Maintain accurate records and compliance with internal procurement procedures.
*
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain.
Requirements
*
Proven experience in manufacturing purchasing within a mechanical or precision engineering environment.
*
Ability to interpret technical drawings, BOMs, and engineering specifications.
*
Understanding of machining processes, raw materials, and fabrication.
*
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
*
ERP/MRP experience (Sage 200 or similar) with solid Microsoft Office skills.
*
Organised, proactive, and confident managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
