We are looking for a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead to join our staff team at Stoke Damerel Community College and Scott Medical and Healthcare College Campus.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the campus and further contribute to the life chances of young people in the school and across the Trust.

The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead will support the DSL with implementing and upholding the school's safeguarding policy and procedures; ensuring staff have access to policies and understand both the policies and their individual responsibilities in relation to keeping children safe. They will ensure that all staff are aware of their responsibility to challenge behaviour which breaches the Guidance for Safer Working Practice and the Staff Code of Conduct.

The successful applicant will play a vital role in safeguarding our students and supporting their well-being, ensuring that every student feels safe, supported and ready to thrive. Hours of work: 37 hours per week x 40 weeks per year (Term time plus 1 week)

Main responsibilities:

* Recognise how to identify signs of abuse and when to make a referral
* Respond appropriately and promptly to disclosures or concerns relating to the well-being of a child
* Refer allegations or cases of suspected abuse to the relevant investigating agencies, ensuring they have access to the most relevant up to date information
* Refer cases to the Channel programme where there is a radicalisation concern and support staff who make referrals to the Channel programme
* Refer cases where a crime may have been committed to the police
* Keep detailed, accurate and secure electronic and where needed written records of concerns and referrals on the school's safeguarding platform. (CPOMs)
* Liaise with the Head Teacher and DSL to inform them of any issues and ongoing investigations
* Attend and contribute effectively to Child Protection, Child in Need, Early Help and planning and review meetings, including those taking place outside of school hours.
* Manage triangulation CAHMS consultation and work closely with the SENCO and Attendance Officer.
* Liaise with outside agencies e.g Youth Workers, as needed.
* Oversee the young carers group, and provide advice and guidance to parents needing mental health support and guidance.
* Liaise with the LA, Social Care and Social Workers to follow up referrals and actions.
* Inform the DSL and headteacher of safeguarding issues, especially ongoing enquiries where a child is at risk of harm and police investigations.
* Support additional project opportunities from outside providers working with our young people
* To attend and contribute to college Team Around the Child (TAC) meetings across the campus to support decision making.

You will need:

* Strong academic record including English & Maths at Grade 4/5 or equivalent
* Minimum level 3 qualification/training in a relevant care, development and education of children
* Relevant degree
* Safeguarding Children and Young People level 3 or willingness to complete
* Previous experience of working with children in an educational setting
* Experience of leading child protection and safeguarding strategies
* Build and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, colleagues and governors and be available to them for support on safeguarding matters
* Working and communicating effectively with relevant agencies
* Experience of handling sensitive data and upholding the principles of confidentiality in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018
* Awareness of national and local agencies that provide support for children and their families
