About The Role

Be part of this ‘once in a generation’ project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable load low-carbon electricity.

The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke.

We are more than just an alliance, we are bringing together a single delivery organisation with years of learning and experience from other major complex infrastructure programmes worldwide.

What you'll be doing

The Sizewell C (SZC) project requires a Design Manager to work within the Enabling Works portion of the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), to coordinate and manage the review and acceptance of engineering design deliverables, ensuring compliance with governing Client and regulatory requirements, a sustained focus on construction feasibility and the acceptable transfer of risk between the Designer and Contractor.

The role requires ensuring the design management procedure is correctly implemented, ensuring this is understood and correctly applied by the project team, and establishing effective arrangements to identify, manage and resolve design issues and interfaces, including package-specific temporary and permanent work design interfaces alongside complex package interface requirements, as associated with a major, multi-disciplinary infrastructure project.

The project team comprises the Client, members of the wider CWA, the Client’s Designer, internal and external temporary work designer(s) and sub-contractors.

Who we're looking for

* Proven experience in implementing design strategies and managing design processes in planning and constructing major projects with an emphasis on civil, structural and tunnel works, with an emphasis on technical coordination and management for construction.
* Construction or technical assurance role involving engagement with stakeholders on design, including interfacing designers, package leads and subcontractor designers.
* Experience leading IDR/IDCs, meetings, workshops, and presentations.
* Ability to manage multiple interfaces and drive team performance.
* Sound knowledge of health & safety legislation and CDM 2015 Regulations
* Familiarity with project lifecycles, governance, and risk management.
* Effective communicator, both listening to others and explaining own considerations to seek agreement on what is best for project.
* Positive approach to teamwork and collaboration, demonstrate leadership and proactiveness with the rest of the project team, including the client and key stakeholders.
* Ability to produce sketches to support proposals and scope document.
* Ability to use AutoCAD software or similar, to be autonomous without necessarily the need for a Draftsman.
* Confident with usual Office suite and comfortable with Advanced Excel Formulas.
* Use of 3D and 4D modelling software for industrial applications.
* Design review process, model management and BIM clash detection.
* Implement the project Design Management Plan, BIM Execution Plan and other associated documents.
* Experience of working collaboratively in a contractor environment.
* Proficiency in IT and numeracy.
* Good communication and ability to form effective relationships with the project team, supply chain partners and clients under time pressure.
* Demonstrable track record of delivering high-quality products to tight deadlines.
* Engineering-based degree and professionally qualified or working towards professional qualification.
* Major Project Construction industry experience with experience of design production and/or coordination for civil, structural and tunnelling works in a contractor-led environment.
* Geotechnical / Foundation experience is a plus.
