About the Role
As a Senior Underwriter, you’ll play a strategic role in driving underwriting performance across our commercial portfolio. Operating with a high level of autonomy, you’ll engage with brokers, mentor junior colleagues, lead complex underwriting decisions, and help shape product offerings in alignment with market trends and business goals.
Key Responsibilities
* Underwrite complex and high-value P&C risks in accordance with internal authority and guidelines
* Lead negotiations with brokers and clients across a range of sectors
* Provide expert input into pricing strategies, wording enhancements, and risk appetite decisions
* Analyse market developments to inform product innovation and underwriting best practice
* Support and mentor junior underwriters to develop technical capability
* Collaborate cross-functionally with claims, actuarial, and distribution teams to strengthen portfolio results
* Ensure rigorous compliance with regulatory and governance frameworks
What We're Looking For
* Extensive experience in underwriting commercial property and casualty risks
* Strong market presence and broker relationships across the UK
* Proven track record in risk selection, portfolio growth, and underwriting profitability
* Excellent commercial awareness and strategic thinking
* ACII qualification or equivalent (or demonstrable depth of technical knowledge)
* Leadership capabilities and commitment to mentoring others
