Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) – Contract | £600–£650/day | Hybrid (Southampton or Sutton)
Location: Grosvenor House (Southampton) or Sutton – 2 days in the office
Contract Length: 6 months (strong potential for extension)

Hours: 40 hours/week
Rate: £500–£550 per day (inside IR35)
About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our dynamic cross-functional team. You’ll play a key role in maintaining, optimizing, and scaling our internal applications and production environments — ensuring performance, reliability, and innovation are at the core of everything we do.

Responsibilities
1. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and support internal applications.
2. Diagnose and resolve complex system performance issues.
3. Improve system monitoring and reporting capabilities.
4. Champion SRE best practices and influence technical direction.
5. Implement and maintain IaaS solutions (AWS preferred).
6. Utilize diagnostics tools (dumps, traces, etc.) to troubleshoot production issues.
7. Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across teams.
Preferred Skills & Experience
8. Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
9. Deep technical expertise with Linux.
10. Strong experience with Python and/or scripting languages (e.g., Bash).
11. Proficiency with databases such as PostgreSQL or SQL Server.
12. Proven experience designing and maintaining highly available AWS environments (VPCs, EC2, ECS, EKS, RDS, S3).
13. Strong grasp of security engineering and best practices.
14. Advanced knowledge of CI/CD, configuration management (e.g., Puppet), and IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
15. Experience with containerization (Docker on Linux).
16. Monitoring enthusiast — hands-on with Grafana, Elastic, StatusCake, PagerDuty, or similar.
17. Strong business awareness and ability to deliver on strategic goals.
Desirable Skills
18. Agile delivery experience.
19. Knowledge across Linux, networking, storage, and databases.
20. Familiarity with security tooling and cloud-native architectures.
21. Excellent communication — able to explain technical concepts clearly.
22. Experience administering scalable, cloud-native applications.
