Fylde Council is seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking individual to take on the vital role of Head of Parks & Coastal Services. With responsibility for more than 60 employees, this is a high-profile leadership position at the heart of our operational services, covering everything from parks and nature reserves to coastal management and heritage landscapes.
In this role, you will:
Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership and daily management of our parks and coastal services, ensuring reliable, safe, and high-quality delivery.
* Oversee statutory ecological sites, listed parks, and heritage assets, ensuring full compliance with environmental, coastal, and health and safety legislation.
* Lead on the development and promotion of Fylde’s parks, open spaces, play areas, and coastline, creating opportunities for recreation, conservation, and community engagement.
* Drive service improvements and deliver projects that respond to changing legislation, customer demand, and the council’s environmental ambitions, including reducing the service’s carbon footprint.
* Manage contracts, partnerships, and service level agreements with a wide range of stakeholders, from local communities and voluntary groups to statutory agencies.
* Support the council’s trading initiatives, developing sustainable income streams through grounds maintenance and new commercial opportunities.
* Work closely with the Head of Waste and Fleet Services to ensure cross-cutting efficiencies at Snowdon Road Depot, deputising when required.
Qualifications
* Has a proven track record of leading large operational teams and delivering complex services.
* Brings strong knowledge of horticulture, ecology, arboriculture, and environmental legislation.
* Demonstrates excellent project and contract management skills, with the ability to deliver to deadlines and targets.
* Can prepare and present clear reports, strategies, and policies to senior managers, members, and external partners.
* Has strong communication and relationship-building skills, working effectively with colleagues, councillors, contractors, and the community.
* Holds relevant qualifications in a land-based subject and health and safety, with leadership or management training an advantage.
* Possesses a full UK driving licence and a flexible approach, with the ability to support out-of-hours work when needed.
