About the Role
We’re looking for a Behaviour Mentor to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Monmouthshire. The school has a strong pastoral ethos and supports over 1,300 pupils across Years 7–13.
You’ll be based mainly within the school’s Specialist Resource Base (SRB), supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including autism, severe learning difficulties, speech and language needs, and social, emotional or behavioural challenges.
This is a hands-on, active role where no two days are the same. You’ll work 1:1 and in small groups, helping pupils manage behaviour, build confidence, regulate emotions and engage positively with learning.
What You’ll Do
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with ALN
* Use behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to support positive outcomes
* Support pupils with sensory needs, mobility or personal care where required
* Encourage confidence, engagement and emotional development
* Work closely with teachers and the wider SEN and pastoral team
What We’re Looking For
* A calm, patient and resilient approach
* Experience working with children or young people with SEN or challenging behaviour (desirable but not essential)
* Confidence to adapt to different situations and step up when needed
* Strong communication skills and a genuine commitment to safeguarding
* Comfortable supporting small groups or managing a class when required
What You’ll Need
* Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration (or willingness to apply)
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
* Level 2 Safeguarding training (or willingness to complete it)
* Two professional references covering the past two years
