To support the care, welfare, and education of children and young people with additional support needs (ASN) in accordance with relevant legislation, policy, and guidelines.
A Learning Support Worker may work with any child or group of children within a department, mainstream class, or early learning and childcare (ELC) setting. They may work alongside or under the guidance of any teacher within a school. Work may be based on an individualised education programme (IEP), followed by all staff working with the child/young person, and may involve collaboration with professionals such as Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Educational Psychologists, and members of the Educational Outreach Service.

Bell's Brae Primary School, located in central Lerwick, is a non-denominational school comprising a Primary, an Early Learning and Childcare Setting, and an ASN department. The catchment area includes Frakkafield and most of Lerwick, excluding Sound. The school has approximately 292 pupils. It is managed by Mrs. Julia McGinlay, Head Teacher, with three Depute Head Teachers. The staff includes 23 teachers supported by additional support staff as needed. * The grade of this post is G.
* The pay rate includes a Distant Islands Allowance of £1.4808 per hour.
* This is a temporary part-time post, 30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, plus 6.24 weeks of paid holiday during school holidays. The contract is valid until 16 August 2026.
* Preferred candidates must join or update their membership in the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme prior to employment.
* The successful candidate must register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) upon starting.
* No relocation package is available for this post.
* Interview expenses within Shetland will be reimbursed.
* Flexible working arrangements are welcome.
