Critical Care Support

This role incorporates equipment maintenance, monitoring and ordering of department stock items, assisting registered nurses with the provision of patient care, assistance in administration and clerical duties.

Main duties of the job

Ward 38 Critical Care has 18 intensive care beds and a co-located specialist cubicle for critically unwell burns patients.

* Burns & Plastics
* Respiratory/Home Ventilation
* Infectious Diseases
* Obstetrics
* Emergency Medical & Surgical Admissions

We can offer:

* An excellent structured preceptorship supported by supernumerary period.
* Regular study and learning opportunities working with Clinical Educators in the clinical area
* Friendly and supportive workplace (Clinical supervision in operation)
* Basic IT skills
* Ability to communicate with members of the public and healthcare providers
* Ability to work effectively under direct supervision, as part of the multi-disciplinary team

Job responsibilities

* Post holder will be expected to contribute to housekeeping and other ward/department duties as required, e.g., general tidiness, re‑determined stock levels are met and clinical equipment is clean, working and stored correctly.
* To abide by Trust policies and procedures.
* To assist the registered nurses (or other healthcare practitioners) in providing high quality patient care and report any concerns regarding the patient's condition to the qualified nurse.
* Maintain patients privacy and dignity at all times and provide care in a compassionate and sensitive manner.
* Be an effective part of the multi‑disciplinary team contributing to the departmental objectives.
* Maintaining a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the patients, their families and visitors.
* Actively contribute to the provision of nutrition of the patients on the Ward/Department.
* Assist with admin & clerical duties as required.


Person Specification


Knowledge

* Ability to maintain and improve knowledge, skills and competence to ensure high standards of patient care.
* Ability to meet basic care needs of patients.
* Understanding of confidentiality.
* Basic knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control.
* Understanding of basic food hygiene concepts.
* Understanding of basic safeguarding.
* An understanding of working in the NHS.


Skills

* Basic IT skills.
* Ability to be responsible for own development, identifying training needs, setting personal objectives and attending appropriate training as agreed by line manager.
* Ability to initiate emergency action when required e.g., Cardiac arrest, Fire.


Experience

* Ability to plan, prioritise own and delegated work tasks and activities.
* Experience of caring in a health care setting.


Qualifications

* NVQ Level 2 in appropriate subject (or on pathway) or equivalent qualification/experience in care or domestic work.
* GCSEs in English and Maths at Grades 3-1 (or D-G or Level 1 Functional/Key Skills).
