Overview
Join to apply for the 2026 Graduate Programme - Earth & Environment - Mining role at WSP in the UK & Ireland.
Join our dynamic Mining team who are drivers of change, guiding our clients towards sustainable mining practices. Critical minerals and mining play a vital role in the low carbon future as clean energy technologies such as wind, solar and batteries are more material intensive than current traditional fossil-fuel-based energy systems.
What you will do
You will contribute to all parts of the mining life cycle, from exploration and pre-feasibility through to mine closure, supporting clients move towards sustainable mining practices. You will learn by working on projects internationally and collaborating with experienced colleagues across technical specialisms.
Projects you may work on include water balance models and water management plans, dam break modelling, hydraulic structures design, water quality and geochemical modelling, and environmental and social impact assessments. You will be embedded in multidisciplinary teams alongside geotechnical engineers, resource geologists, surface water engineers and mine waste engineers, dealing with internal and external stakeholders and dynamic project environments.
Responsibilities
* Mine Water – Hydrology / Water resources engineering, Hydrogeology and Geochemistry roles (locations: Naas, Ireland; Birmingham; London).
* Mine Waste – geotechnical work and supporting project delivery for diverse sites (locations include Naas, Ireland; Sheffield, Leeds, Birmingham or London).
* Support design and technical investigations across the mining life cycle, including hydrological modelling, water management, environmental monitoring and reporting.
* Prepare technical documents under supervision and contribute to feasibility studies, monitoring programmes and project proposals.
* Collaborate with teams on international projects and develop strong client relationships.
What you will be doing day to day by team
* Mine Water – support surface water, groundwater and geochemistry work; assist in water management planning and water balance modelling.
* Hydrology / Water Resource Engineering – assist in developing hydrological models and water engineering solutions; contribute to technical documentation.
* Hydrogeology – participate in site visits, borehole drilling supervision, aquifer testing and numerical modelling; groundwater analysis using software.
* Geochemistry – work on water quality and geochemical models; collect and interpret field/lab data; contribute to technical reports.
* Mine Waste – contribute to geotechnical design and modelling; support engineering problem solving, reporting and client support; travel as required.
Graduate Development and Progression
