NHS Grampian – Consultant in Rheumatology & General Medicine (Ref: CK242467)
We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Rheumatologist to join the existing award‑winning Rheumatology team at NHS Grampian. This is a replacement post for eight Programmed Activities (PAs) and also includes two Programmed Activities (PAs) in General Internal Medicine (GIM).
About the Department
The Rheumatology Department is based at Ashgrove House on the Foresterhill site and provides comprehensive rheumatology services for the large geographical region of Grampian in North East Scotland (population approximately 590,000) and the island of Orkney (population approximately 22,000). It covers inflammatory arthritis, spondyloarthropathy, connective tissue disease, vasculitis, metabolic bone disease and transitional care/young adult clinics. The department is part of the Aberdeen Centre for Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Health (ACAMH) and works closely with the BSR Ankylosing Spondylitis and Psoriatic Arthritis registries. It is recognised as a EULAR centre of excellence.
The department is supported by a dedicated team of nurses and allied health professionals.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide a comprehensive clinical service in rheumatology, with a strong focus on inflammatory joint disease.
* Develop sub‑specialty interests to complement and enhance the services within the department.
* Deliver consultations in the outpatient clinic, day‑case facilities and other departmental areas.
* Contribute to the multidisciplinary care of patients with rheumatology conditions across the region.
Qualifications & Experience
* Full registration with the GMC and licence to practise in the UK.
* Higher specialist training leading to CCT, or within six months of entry on the GMC Specialist Register at the date of interview.
* Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) or portfolio pathway specialist registration (must be awarded to be eligible for a substantive Consultant post).
* Evidence of expertise in rheumatology, particularly inflammatory arthritis and related sub‑specialties (e.g., spondyloarthropathy, vasculitis, osteoporosis).
* Applicants not listed on the GMC Specialist Register may be considered for a locum Consultant post (up to twelve months) if no substantive appointment is made, with opportunity to apply for CESR or portfolio pathway registration.
Employment Details
* Eight Rheumatology PAs available (six and a half DCC and one and a half SPA) without on‑call commitment.
* Two GIM PAs involve on‑call 1 in 5 weekends and out‑of‑hours cover from 5 pm to 9 am the week before the weekend on‑call.
