What you will be doing
as an Environmental Waste Resources Technician
The role of an Environmental Waste Resources Technician will be varied, with no two days being the same. Your time will be split between office and site, and you will be given the opportunity to work on a range of different waste streams, including sewage grit, sewage screenings, chemicals, spent activated carbon and many more!
1. Identification and implementation of innovative ways that deliver environmental and financial benefits.
2. Carry out audits and reporting for “The Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment, 2013” and “The Waste Batteries & Accumulators, 2009”.
3. Providing advice and guidance to operational teams and other internal departments.
4. Management of Thames Water’s internal free cycle operation “Green Tag”, which enables our operational teams to reuse and recycle items across the business.
5. Classification of waste in line with the Gov.UK Technical Guidance WM3.
6. Creation and implementation of waste management processes and procedures.
7. Collation, analysis and presentation of waste data.
8. Ensuring Health & Safety requirements are met within the Company and legal frameworks.
The base location will be Didcot Regional Distribution Centre, in Oxfordshire, with travel expected across our operational sites.
Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 36 hours a week.
What skills are we looking for?
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
9. An understanding and experience of waste and recycling management systems
10. Ideally, have or be working toward chartered status for a relevant institute.
11. In-depth knowledge of waste legislation and policy in the UK.
12. Familiar with relevant codes of practice and guidance documents applicable to the waste management industry, including the Definition of Waste: Code of Practice, Quality Protocols and Waste Duty of Care Code of Practice.
13. Able to undertake waste classification in line with Gov.uk WM3 Guidance.
14. Experience in undertaking audits and site inspections.
15. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and confident in the delivery of presentations.
16. Collaborative skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
17. Excellent time management skills with the ability to work on several projects simultaneously whilst working to tight deadlines.
18. Data management, analysis with excellent IT skills.
19. Hold a clean driving licence.
