Senior Respiratory Healthcare Scientist

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Band 6 Senior Healthcare Scientist to join our established and supportive Respiratory Physiology and Sleep Service at UHDB. This is an excellent opportunity for an autonomous respiratory physiologist to work within a dynamic multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory and sleep services across acute, community and multi-site settings.
Main duties of the job
* Work as an autonomous practitioner, independently performing, interpreting and reporting a wide range of respiratory and sleep investigations.
* Apply clinical judgement to adapt, modify or postpone investigations based on patient condition, clinical indication and safety considerations.
* Produce accurate, timely and clinically relevant reports.
* Undertake and support sleep diagnostics and treatment pathways, including sleep study analysis, CPAP initiation and follow-up, in line with national and local guidelines.
* Participate in delivering care involved with NIV patient pathways.
* Contribute to the day-to-day operational running of the service, escalating issues and reporting regularly to the departmental managerial lead.
* Provide supervision, training and support to trainee and junior colleagues.
* Ensure the safe use, quality control, calibration and basic fault-finding of specialist respiratory and sleep equipment, in line with Trust policies and professional standards.
* Recognise and respond appropriately to clinical deterioration or adverse events, initiating emergency procedures and escalation in accordance with Trust policy.
* Participate in clinical audit, service evaluation and quality improvement, supporting the ongoing development and effectiveness of respiratory and sleep services.
* Building a portfolio to work towards STP equivalence is strongly encouraged as part of this role.
Qualifications
* BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology/Healthcare Science or equivalent relevant qualification
* ARTP Practitioner Qualification or ARTP Part 1 and/or 2
* Evidence of ongoing CPD in relevant area
* Immediate Life Support Training
Experience & Knowledge
* Experience performing and reporting respiratory physiology investigations, including lung function testing
* Ability to work independently and autonomously within respiratory physiology
* Evidence of applying clinical judgement to adapt or modify investigations appropriately
* Experience of sleep diagnostics, sleep study scoring and/or CPAP services
* Experience reviewing or authorising investigations performed by others
Skills & Ability
* Understanding of patient safety, clinical governance and quality assurance
* Knowledge of equipment quality control, calibration and fault-finding
* Experience supporting, training or supervising junior staff or trainees
* Evidence of participation in service development, audit or quality improvement

£39,959 to £48,117 a year. Developmental Band 6 would be paid at Band 6 Annex 21.
