This challenging opportunity requires an individual with commercial expertise within the UK civil engineering or infrastructure sectors. Hybrid working is available (2/3 days in the office, 2/3 from home). The role supports all commercial and contractual matters across the business and contributes to delivering a wide range of projects.
Responsibilities
* Support all commercial activities and financial governance, working with contracts, operations and senior management teams
* Review and challenge existing commercial processes to identify and implement best practice
* Draw up contracts and sub-contracts or ensure contracts are in place prior to commencement; review contracts drawn up by third parties
* Assist with pre-construction commercial activities: vetting/approval of terms, contract evaluations, sub-contract procurement and selection
* Identify risks and opportunities and manage as appropriate
* Provide commercial and contractual advice to operations teams
* Notify, prepare and agree changes, claims or extensions of time
* Attend client meetings, including project commencement and close-out
* Undertake commercial audits to ensure good practice and compliance
* Prepare monthly financial reports and identify trends and improvement areas
* Finalize accounts and interim assessments, including early warnings, compensation events and extensions of time
* Financial reconciliation and contractual administration
* Participate in risk management meetings and value engineering discussions
* Prepare CVR reports with KPI data, define costs to complete, and capture pain/gain positions
* Prepare and agree final accounts; administer sub-contract documents

Qualifications/Experience
* Relevant formal qualifications are desirable; demonstrable practical experience also accepted
* Good working knowledge of civil engineering or infrastructure sectors
* Experience with NEC 3 & 4 and JCT contracts (NEC essential, JCT desirable)
* Knowledge of pre-construction and procurement processes
* Understanding of various construction techniques and contract sequences
* Ability to apply quantity surveying best practices to projects
* Basic understanding of plant, equipment and materials
