Role Overview
The Client Manager is responsible for managing and developing a portfolio of clients, delivering high-quality accountancy and advisory services, and building long-term client relationships. The role contributes to business growth by ensuring excellent client service, identifying commercial opportunities, and delivering work efficiently within agreed budgets and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and develop strong, long-term relationships with a portfolio of clients.
* Deliver high-quality compliance and advisory services in line with professional standards and client expectations.
* Identify opportunities to provide additional services to existing clients and contribute to business development activities.
* Ensure all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and within agreed timescales and budgets.
* Maintain a proactive approach to client service, addressing queries and issues promptly and professionally.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues and senior management to support the firm’s objectives and business plans.
* Contribute to the development and improvement of internal systems, processes, and best practices.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and industry developments.
* Use accounting and reporting software effectively to analyse financial information and support client decision-making.
* Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with clients and internal stakeholders.
Key Duties
* Manage a portfolio of clients, acting as a primary point of contact and ensuring regular communication.
* Prepare, review, and finalise statutory accounts and supporting documentation in accordance with agreed deadlines and budgets.
* Prepare business and personal tax computations for review.
* Prepare, review, or oversee the preparation and submission of VAT returns.
* Maintain or oversee the maintenance of clients’ accounting records and management information.
* Prepare periodic management accounts and performance reports (monthly, quarterly, or half-yearly) where required.
* Provide clients with practical advice to improve profitability, cash flow, and overall financial performance.
* Identify and escalate any issues that may impact delivery timescales or budgets.
* Resolve client queries prior to final review and client meetings.
* Attend meetings with clients, both remotely and at client premises, as required.
* Support and contribute to ad-hoc projects and assignments.
* Carry out other reasonable duties as required in line with the needs of the business.
Skills and Experience
* Previous experience in a client-facing role within accountancy or professional services.
* Strong technical knowledge of accounts preparation, taxation, and compliance requirements.
* Commercially aware, with the ability to identify opportunities to add value to clients.
* Confident using accounting and reporting software and Microsoft Office applications.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
