KCEN 6 News, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate serving Waco-Temple-Killeen and Central Texas, is looking for a dynamic weekend meteorologist who thrives in the digital space. This is not your average weather job. We’re looking for a digital and social media superstar who is as comfortable in front of the green screen as they are creating compelling vertical video content for mobile audiences. This position offers the unique opportunity to be part of a first-of-its-kind streaming news show in Central Texas on KCEN 6, where you’ll help reimagine how weather is presented in the digital era. You’ll anchor weekend weather on-air, contribute to all-platform severe weather coverage, and lead the charge in creating standout digital-first weather content tailored to an audience that lives online. Responsibilities: · Present accurate, engaging weather forecasts for weekend evening newscasts and fill in on other newscasts as needed. · Serve as a key member of the severe weather team, using the latest technology to track storms and report from the field when necessary. · Lead the station’s digital weather presence, including vertical video storytelling, original 6 streaming content, and mobile-first segments. · Enterprise original weather content for all platforms, including long-form, behind-the-scenes, and explainer content. · Post, engage and grow your following across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, and YouTube with creative and timely content. · Update the station website and app daily with forecasts, blog-style weather updates, and breaking weather alerts. · Make public appearances, attend community events, and represent KCEN in a positive and engaging manner. · Operate news gathering vehicles safely to and from assignments. · Stay organized, meet deadlines, and bring fresh ideas to the table. Requirements: · Proven experience delivering accurate and conversational on-air forecasts. · A passion for digital storytelling and a deep understanding of social media platforms. · Strong grasp of audience-first content creation and digital video trends, especially for mobile. · Excellent organizational and time-management skills. · Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including weekends and during severe weather events. · AMS or NWA Seal (or on path to obtain) preferred. · Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or related field required.
