Job Description
As a Senior Process Engineer / Environmental Consultant you will be an integrated member of our UK-wide team, working to undertake process design and modelling studies, data collection, site management, task management, reporting and interpretation of results on a wide range of environmental and engineering projects.
We are looking for a Senior professional seeking to further their career, with experience in supporting process design and computational modelling assessments. As part of the Site Evaluation and Restoration team you will have the opportunity to work on diverse projects and conduct a variety of tasks including equipment design, engineering calculations, numerical modelling, process commissioning and operation, environmental sampling and monitoring, and technical report writing.
Responsibilities
* Support desk‑based engineering design studies, focusing on soil and groundwater remediation systems and industrial water treatment systems, including tasks such as:
o Process unit specification
o Production and review of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
o Hazop studies
o Pipework infrastructure design
o Pilot testing analysis
o Systems automation and control philosophy
* Undertake water conservation studies, auditing water use on industrial facilities and identifying/implementing water savings opportunities.
* Use Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to model the behaviour of natural environmental systems and to improve the operation of industrial process equipment.
* Cost and plan various project tasks.
* Field‑based work across the UK, including:
o Site management of remediation sites and associated environmental works, with a strong focus on health and safety management and documentation.
o Collection of site and process characterisation data, including soil & groundwater sampling and process performance monitoring.
o Management of sample collection paperwork and scheduling for laboratory analysis.
o Operation, troubleshooting and optimisation of process equipment and treatment plants.
o Compilation of site data for factual reports and development of interpretive reports, including environmental assessments and process performance.
* Collaborate with other sectors/disciplines to ensure project integrity.
* Produce project outputs (documentation, reports, specifications) that meet or exceed client expectations and Arcadis requirements, complying with relevant national standards and codes of practice.
* Develop effective working relationships with the Project Manager, client and project team, ensuring clear communication of progress, changes and issue resolution.
* Maintain a good understanding of Arcadis services, the client’s business and the industry sector to facilitate professional networking and credibility.
Qualifications
* BSc qualified (or higher) in Chemical and Process Engineering, or equivalent.
* Experience in process design projects and numerical modelling/CFD software.
* Ability to work independently, within a local office‑based team, and larger multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects to tight deadlines and budgets.
* Experience collecting and interpreting/analysing field data.
* Proficient report writer.
* Aware of potential risks associated with processing plants and environmental investigations, including health and safety, budgetary and technical considerations.
* Working towards professional membership and chartership.
