The Opportunity
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Driver Training Manager to lead our driver development and compliance efforts. This is a pivotal role ensuring the competence, safety, and legal compliance of our professional drivers, while supporting operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver engaging inductions and training for new and agency drivers.
* Conduct driver assessments and interviews during recruitment.
* Manage the recruitment process for both permanent and agency drivers.
* Investigate accidents and identify root causes.
* Provide training on fuel economy, safety, and vehicle-specific operations (rigids, tippers, walking floors).
* Use telematics data to coach and improve driver performance.
* Oversee and support driver mentors/assessors.
* Manage external training providers and outsourced training.
* Monitor and manage tachograph infringements and WTD compliance.
* Maintain accurate training records and manage the driver training matrix.
* Deliver CPC training and manage associated documentation.
* Conduct drug and alcohol testing, licence checks, and risk assessments.
What We’re Looking For
* Proven experience as a professional LGV driver (Category C+E).
* Recognised driver trainer qualifications (e.g. RTITB, JAUPT).
* Strong knowledge of UK transport laws, WTD, and driver hours.
* Experience delivering in-house training and using telematics/TMS platforms.
* Excellent communication, coaching, and organisational skills.
* CPC trainer qualification (desirable).
* NEBOSH or IOSH Managing Safely (desirable).
* Familiarity with FORS or DVSA Earned Recognition standards (desirable).
