Job Introduction
Do you want to take the lead on a new BBC News social strategy?
This role has the unique opportunity to design and implement a new approach to engaging followers over the weekend. You’ll be commissioning bespoke content for TikTok, telling stories on the world’s biggest news Instagram account and breaking news across WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube and X as well as driving audiences to our website.
You’ll be feeding social engagement and reaction into BBC News digital and working on pieces that respond to our followers’ questions and comments. You’ll be using data and social listening to help guide you on what works and know how to frame a story to target audiences across different platforms.
This role will be planning content on a Thursday and Friday and overseeing roll outs across the weekend, taking full ownership of the weekend strategy. This position will offer great experience for potential assistant editor opportunities in future.
Main Responsibilities
6. Write and edit social media posts and video across multiple platforms.
7. Commission and select relevant materials ensuring they meet expectations of our audiences and adhere to the BBC’s editorial guidelines.
8. To act as a facilitator of change, clearly communicating and distributing best practice between teams. Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
9. Implement and oversee strategy
10. Work closely with stakeholders across BBC News
11. As required, to allocate work to a team and check progress; ensure the professional contribution of staff and the quality of output.
12. Seek ways to increase diversity in our workforce and to ensure that our output reflects the audiences we serve.
13. Deliver journalism of the highest standard and within the required time frame using available resources.
14. At all times to carry out du ties in accordance with the BBC health and safety policy.
